Aberdeen, South Dakota
Presentation Sisters arrived on the plains of Aberdeen, South Dakota, from the George’s Hill, Dublin, Ireland, foundation on October 4, 1886, with Mother John Hughes as the founding superior. In 1901, they were asked to open a hospital because of the care they gave the people during the severe diphtheria epidemic the previous year. They minister in North and South Dakota, California, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio, Peru, Bolivia and Guatemala. Today, they number 116 Sisters and 37 Associates as of May, 2005.

Dubuque, Iowa
Mother Vincent Hennessey from Mooncoin, County Waterford, Ireland, arrived in Dubuque, Iowa on November 13, 1874, to staff Catholic schools for the poor Irish who had settled there. Today the Sisters minister in Washington, D.C., Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Bolivia. At present, the community numbers 144 Sisters and 77 Associates as of May, 2005.

Fargo, North Dakota
Presentation Sisters arrived on the plains of Fargo in the Dakota Territory from the two foundations of George’s Hill, Dublin and Doneraile, County Cork, Ireland. Mother John Hughes and her sister, Mother Mary Agnes Hughes, came together on July 22, 1882, to teach in the school, to nurse and care for the indigent and friendless sick persons, the collection and disbursing of voluntary contribution of money, clothing and food for charitable purposes. They serve in North Dakota, New York City, Missouri, South Dakota, Mississippi, Iowa, Tennessee and Peru. Today, the community numbers 53 Sisters and 76 Associates, as of May, 2005.

New Windsor, New York
The Presentation community of New Windsor, New York, resulted from the merger of the two Presentation communities of Newburgh, New York, and Fitchburg, Massachusetts on July 10, 1997. Their origins reach back to Tuam, Clondalkin, and Terenure in Ireland, which led to the new foundations of Newburgh, New York, in 1874, by Mother Joseph Hickey and Mother Magdalene Keating for Fitchburg in 1886. They came to staff the parish school and educate the children of Irish immigrants in their faith. These sisters serve in Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Peru and Bolivia. The New Windsor community numbers 149 Sisters and 70 Associates, as of May, 2005.

St. John's, Newfoundland-Labrador
St. John’s, originating from the Galway foundation, is the first foundation of the North American Presentation communities. Mother Mary Bernard Kirwan arrived on the shores of Newfoundland from the Galway foundation on September 21, 1833. They were invited to teach the children of the Irish fishing families who had settled there. They minister in Newfoundland, other parts of Canada, and the West Indies. Today, their community numbers 142 Sisters and 47 Associates, as of May, 2005.

San Francisco, California (Main Office)
Founded from the Midleton, County Cork, Ireland, and Kilkenny foundations, Presentation Sisters arrived in the harbor of San Francisco on November 13, 1854, on the heels of the Gold Rush. Mother Joseph Cronin, who returned to Ireland shortly after her arrival, was succeeded by Mother Teresa Comerford who is honored as the founding superior. They minister in a variety of ministries in California, Arizona, Texas, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Today, the community has 112 Sisters and 49 Associates, as of May, 2005.

Staten Island, New York
The Staten Island Community began when St. Michael’s Convent in New York City sent four sisters to Staten Island to minister to the orphans and neglected children of the island. Island on September 29, 1884. Mother Mary Teresa Reynolds became its founding superior when Staten Island became recognized as an independent community in 1890. They serve in New York, New Jersey, South Dakota, and Pennsylvania. They number 18 sisters and 8 associates, as of May, 2005.

Union of Presentation Sisters, United States Province
The Union, formed on July 19, 1976, was the result of a merging of eighteen Presentation communities who had settled in the United States and found their roots from various places in Ireland and Pakistan. Sister Lucy Troy was the first Congregational President after the merger and Sister Annunciata Murtaugh was the first Provincial Leader for the United States Province. They serve in Alabama, Arizona, California, Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and are connected with the other Union communities around the world. Today, The United States Province numbers 81 with 37 Associates, as of May, 2005.
