Sister Stories

Sister Jessi Beck
Elementary Teacher | Dubuque, Iowa

When did you hear God’s call and how have you responded? I never wanted to be a sister and didn’t even know any sisters until I was in college. So I was certainly surprised when I felt God’s call to religious life overwhelming me the year after graduating from college. After much discernment and a year of volunteer service, I entered the community to find out what God might have in store for my life.
How has living as a Presentation Sister enhanced your life? Being a Presentation Sister has expanded my world. I am part of a community of thousands of wise women across the globe, who are fighting for justice and working to make the world a better place especially for those most in need. I belong to something so much bigger than myself. I have deepened in my relationship with God and learned a lot about myself along the way.
What would you share with women considering religious life?
If you are passionate about justice, desire a deepened relationship with God, and long for community, religious life might be a fit for you. Continue to pray, talk to mentors and friends, and spend time with the sisters.
Anything else you’d like to share? This life is not easy but it’s worth it! Being a Presentation Sister is the best way for me to be most fully the person God wants me to be.
